The health benefits of a good sleep

Sleep is something that we often take for granted, but not getting the recommended seven to nine hours each night can have a serious impact on your health and wellbeing. Here we run through just a few of the amazing health benefits you can get from good quality sleep.

Sleep makes you happy

According to findings from the Great British Sleep Survey, people who suffer from regular sleep disturbances are three times more likely to experience low mood compared to those who sleep well. Those who generally get between seven and nine hours tend to wake up with a much more positive attitude.

Sleep aids weight loss

Sleeping well every night can actually help you to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Several studies have shown that poor sleep leads to increased levels of the hormones that make you feel hungry, while good sleep results in a healthy appetite the next day.

Sleep supports your immune system

Research from the Carnegie Mellon University in the US revealed that people who sleep less than seven hours each night are three times more likely to catch a cold than those who slept for eight hours or more. Not getting enough sleep can also weaken your immune system, which leaves you at an increased risk of getting flu or catching a cold.
